A short drive from Guadalajara, or a little longer from Puerto Vallarta, nestled amid the rolling hills and vibrant landscapes of Jalisco, Mexico, lies the charming town of Tequila. Famous for its namesake spirit, Tequila offers a rich tapestry of culture, history, and, of course, its yummy flavors both in food and drinks.
Morning Indulgence: A Taste of Tradition:
Our adventure began with a scenic drive from Guadalajara, winding through picturesque countryside adorned with agave fields. Upon arrival, we immersed ourselves in the heart of Tequila’s culinary scene, indulging in a traditional Mexican breakfast bursting with authentic flavors, and of course coffee and pastries were a must.. Energized and eager, we set out to explore the birthplace of Mexico’s most beloved libation.
Not all places take a credit card. The street vendors definitely do not take credit card, and its faster if you have cash available. Therefore, I encourage you to take Mexican Pesos with you. Dollars are accepted some places, however the exchange rate is usually rounded way down.
Orendain Tequila: A Journey Through Heritage:
Stepping into Orendain Tequila, we were greeted by the aroma of agave and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Our tour guide led us on an immersive journey through the distillery, where we learned about the meticulous craftsmanship behind each bottle of tequila and had plenty of tastings along the way. From the harvest of the blue agave to the intricacies of distillation, every step in the process was steeped in tradition and reverence for the land.
Tequila Tour Bus: A Toast to Adventure:
Embracing the spirit of exploration, we boarded the tequila tour bus, embarking on a scenic ride through the enchanting streets of Tequila. As we meandered through cobblestone streets and colorful homes typical to this region, we marveled at the town’s colonial architecture as the music from the Bus speakers moved us along the route.
Plaza Del Pueblo: A Culinary Delight
After a stroll through the town’s plaza we found a restaurant in the heart of it all and sat for dinner, as we people watched both nationals and foreigners delighted in all that Tequila has to offer.
From savory street tacos to mouthwatering tamales, the plaza offered a tantalizing array of culinary delights. Yet, it was the world-famous Tequila Cantarito that stole the show—a refreshing blend of tequila, citrus, and a hint of spice, served in a clay mug adorned with colorful artwork. Sipping this iconic cocktails we strolled toward our car to head home, I was happy to have finally made my way to this Magical town of Tequila, and can’t wait to come back.
You don’t have to drink alcohol to have fun. The town of Tequila is more than Cocktails and shots!
My family and I had a great time! Even the underage non-drinkers had a blast. I highly encourage this day trip for all ages. Some that have difficulty walking all day might need to find a spot in the town plaza or at a restaurant and sit and people watch under the shade with a drink of choice and a snack or two, guaranteed none will be lacking- this is sometimes more amusing and definitely less tiring!
